Airalo’s fully remote Networks & Infrastructure team in the UK is growing. You’ll ensure the systems and infrastructure that power millions of travellers remain fast, secure, and reliable. Solve challenging technical problems, implement improvements, and experiment with solutions that stick, all while having the tools and freedom to make a tangible impact.

Airalo’s fully remote Core Networks team is growing. We are looking for a Senior PHP Developer who gets excited by deep-tech backend architecture, low-latency data streams, and high-availability systems. If you want to use your PHP/Laravel superpowers to orchestrate modern core networks and shape the future of global connectivity, you’ll feel right at home here.

Your main responsibilities will be to:

  • Design and maintain large-scale, high-performance systems.
  • Develop and refine services to improve scalability and efficiency.
  • Create RESTful APIs that power our front-end and third-party integrations.
  • Collaborate on our migration to a service-oriented architecture (SOA).
  • Write clean, maintainable, and testable code using industry best practices.
  • Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve technical challenges.
  • Actively contribute to all phases of the software development lifecycle.

Must Haves:

  • 5+ years of backend development experience in PHP.
  • 2+ years working with Laravel to build enterprise-level applications—or equivalent experience with Symfony and a strong motivation to learn Laravel.
  • Expertise in distributed systems, scalable services, and RESTful APIs.
  • Familiarity with event-driven architecture and messaging systems (e.g., queues, pub/sub).
  • Strong SQL/NoSQL knowledge and caching strategies.
  • Proficiency in OOP, SOLID principles, and design patterns.
  • Experience with AWS services (e.g., EC2, Lambda, SQS, Aurora, DynamoDB).
  • Experience with monitoring tools like Datadog and Prometheus.
  • Hands-on containerisation skills with Docker.
  • Fluent English communication skills.

Bonus Points:

  • Experience with SaaS/PaaS, SOA, or microservices architecture.
  • Background in telecom, eSIM, or GSMA technologies.
  • Familiarity with TravelTech solutions.
