Moritz
Global AI-native law firm handling legal work with same-day turnaround
Founding Engineer
About the role
Founding Engineer
Moritz is an AI-native law firm, YC-backed and seed-funded. We pair elite legal counsel with state-of-the-art technology to deliver work faster and more reliably than lawyers or software could alone. Most legal tech sells tools to law firms; we're building the firm around the technology instead. Lawyers and engineers sit on the same team, working the same problems.
You'll join as a Founding Engineer with broad responsibility across building product, helping scale the team, and shaping engineering processes. The role is intended to carry leadership responsibility from the start, while remaining hands-on technically.
What you'll do
- Ship. Architecture, code review, and the hardest features — this is the bulk of the job.
- Own delivery without trading away quality, stability, or security.
- Help hire, onboard, and grow the engineering team as it scales.
- Shape how engineering runs: planning cadence, review, standards.
- Make AI-first development work — coding agents, evals, and the guardrails that keep speed from costing quality or security.
Who we're looking for
Someone from a high-growth startup who's helped scale a product and a team through a period of real growth, and wants to do it again with funding behind them. You ship with AI as a core part of how you work, and you've hired and grown engineers before.
