ABOUT CREEM

Creem was born from a simple observation: the financial backbone for digital businesses needed a serious upgrade. While others were tinkering at the edges, we decided to rebuild the engine that powers online ventures from the ground up.

Look around—it's never been easier to create software and build online. AI is changing the game for developers, but we see something bigger happening. Rather than one-person unicorns (cool as that sounds), we're betting on fluid organizations where partners, creators, and contributors come together in new ways. These dynamic teams need better ways to handle money, share rewards, and coordinate efforts—that's exactly the problem we're solving.

Every successful team needs great ways to work together, whether it's through compensation, equity, or workflows. Our mission is to create tools that bring transparency and programmability to these coordination mechanisms, helping tomorrow's digital businesses operate with the sophistication of enterprises but the speed of startups.

We build by solving real problems alongside our customers—no ivory tower product development. We prioritize tackling the tough, meaningful challenges over quick wins, hype and flashy features. Our Customer success directly drives our roadmap, and we iterate our product alongside them.

ABOUT THE ROLE

As Head of Risk and Compliance at Creem, you'll be the strategic architect of our regulatory framework, ensuring that our payment processing platform operates with the highest standards of financial compliance, data security, and fraud prevention. This leadership role is critical to our growth—you'll establish and oversee our compliance infrastructure across multiple jurisdictions, manage our relationships with regulators and banking partners, and build a culture of risk awareness throughout the organization. You'll transform complex regulatory requirements into actionable processes that enable our team to operate confidently while scaling rapidly.

Your mandate spans regulatory compliance, anti-money laundering and know-your-customer frameworks, transaction monitoring and fraud detection, data protection and security governance, and banking relationships. You'll partner directly with our CEO to shape company-wide risk strategy, work with engineering to implement secure systems, and oversee third-party risk management. This is a founder-level position where your expertise will directly influence how Creem operates, scales, and is perceived by partners, regulators, and customers.

You'll build a lean but mighty compliance function, leveraging technology and automation to manage risk efficiently. Rather than creating bureaucracy, you'll design systems that enable rather than slow down our product teams. Your success will be measured not just by avoiding violations, but by creating competitive advantages through trust, security, and regulatory excellence.

WHAT WE VALUE

  • Regulatory Expertise: Deep knowledge of payment processing compliance, fintech regulations across multiple markets, AML/KYC frameworks, and data protection standards. You've successfully navigated regulatory audits and built compliant operations from the ground up.

  • Strategic Mindset: Ability to translate regulatory requirements into business strategy, identifying where compliance becomes a competitive moat. You see risk as both a constraint and an opportunity for differentiation.

  • Operational Excellence: Experience building scalable compliance programs that don't require armies of people. You've implemented systems, tools, and processes that create efficiency and reduce manual work.

  • Relationship Builder: Proven ability to navigate conversations with regulators, banking partners, auditors, and internal stakeholders. You command respect through expertise and integrity.

REQUIREMENTS
