You must be able to sit on a live call and give a merchant or salesperson a correct compliance answer on the spot — no legal degree required, but no back-office-only candidates either.

About the Role

Dodo Payments is a merchant of record. Sales calls, partnership conversations, and merchant support queries constantly raise the same question: what can we support, for whom, where, and on what terms.

This role is the compliance seat in those conversations — finding the workable path for a customer we want, and being clear, fast, when there isn't one.

Responsibilities

  • Answer on the call. Join sales, partnership, and CX conversations where tax, compliance, acceptance, or onboarding questions come up, and give an accurate answer live — not a follow-up email.
  • Work the compliant path for complex accounts. Assess larger or higher-risk merchants, loop in Risk where the case turns on risk assessment, and bring a recommendation to the Head of Compliance & Legal for sign-off.
  • Own onboarding for complex and higher-risk segments — from initial assessment through required documentation and conditions — and turn recurring cases into a repeatable path CX can run without you.
  • Know when to escalate. Route genuinely novel questions for a decision rather than improvising one.

Requirements

  • 2–4 years in compliance, regulatory affairs, policy, or a commercial role with real regulatory content (regulatory consulting, industry associations, in-house teams).
  • Can learn a framework cold and explain it simply, live, to a non-specialist who needs a usable answer now.
  • Deal-facing and comfortable without a script: the compliance path often isn't already defined when you're asked for it.
  • Commercial instinct with a spine — cares whether the deal moves, but will say no to a room that wants a yes.
  • Knows the edge of their own authority: decisive on what they know, disciplined about escalating what they don't.
  • No legal qualification required. Payments, fintech, or regulated/restricted-category experience is a strong plus.

What This Isn't

  • Not back-office or documentation-only — this is live and conversational, not written-and-filed.
  • Not policy-setting on day one. The Head of Compliance & Legal sets acceptance positions and risk appetite; that scope opens up as you earn it.
  • Not merchant risk operations, AML alert review, or transaction monitoring.

What Good Looks Like (3–6 months)

  • New categories and customer types unlocked for onboarding, each case worked up and documented.
  • Complex accounts onboarded with the compliance path defined before the deal closes.
  • Routine compliance and tax questions answered on the call, no escalation.
  • A repeatable onboarding path for higher-risk segments that CX can run on its own.

What You Get

  • A commercial seat inside a compliance function at a merchant of record operating across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Direct customer and partner exposure from day one.
  • Real grounding in cross-border payments regulation, card scheme rules, and merchant-of-record structures — learned on live cases.
  • A credible path to shaping the policies themselves, earned on the judgment you show.

Benefits

  • Health and accidental insurance
  • Clear growth path based on performance
