Job Description
JOB PURPOSE
The purpose of this role to (a) review & recommend for approval credit facilities for the designated portfolio, (b) support the Head of Credit in effective portfolio management to ensure portfolio remains within acceptable parameters as driven by business strategy and agreed TM-RAC, (c) maintain strong credit oversight over portfolio working with Offshore team and other stakeholders and (d) take ownership to maintain good quality over allocated portfolio and for approvals granted with delegated authority, where applicable.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Generic Accountability
- Make suitable and appropriate recommendation to Credit Committees on all proposals in compliance with Banks’ Risk Acceptance Criteria and Group Credit Policy.
- Guide and oversees the due diligence process working with Offshore team for prospective deals in collaboration with Coverage and Product teams to ensure that emerging risk factors are identified and addressed in the Credit Proposal.
- Maintain strong oversight and control over allocated credit portfolio – in the process ensuring that effective portfolio monitoring and mechanisms are in place and processes are adhered to.
- To ensure efficiency, integrity, reliability and speed in Credit Governance and decision making.
- To lead, guide and collaborate either on own account or with Offshore team &/or Credit Managers and with Coverage Units and Product Teams on structuring of credit facilities to ensure that all deals / facilities are structured in a sound and robust manner.
- Act in the capacity of an Advisor & Consultant, as a representative of Credit, and be seen as a business enabler to provide workable solutions in driving key relationships and transactions.
- Advises team on the risk factors associated with complex transactions, and the clauses imperative in mitigating these.
- Participate and engage in client relationships through client visits / conference calls as part of transaction initiation &/or ongoing relationship monitoring. As a minimum, it is expected that all clients in allocated portfolio are met once annually and for key relationships &/or problem account, as frequently, as may be required.
- Gather market intelligence and inputs to use them judiciously as part of credit decision making process
- To deal with Internal & External auditor’s reports and take appropriate steps to close all the observations / issues raised in these reports. Meet Internal and External auditors, as and when required, to discuss portfolio related queries.
- To coordinate with other departments of the bank (e.g. Risk, Finance, TB, Operations etc.) on various Credit and allied issues on behalf of Group Credit.
- Ensure accuracy of data being presented to various stakeholders including senior management
- Recommend amendments to the Bank’s credit policy, procedures, Risk Rating models, credit memorandums, risk criteria etc based on lending experience and market expediencies ensuring it is aligned with overall Bank’s risk strategy & policy
- Oversee / manage Junior SCOs/ Credit Managers (applicable for SCO)
Job Specific Accountabilities
- To coordinate with Coverage teams in advance to discuss deal pipeline of new / interim proposals, due dates of annual reviews so as to obtain necessary information to facilitate a comprehensive review of the credit facilities.
- Ensure the team that the turnaround time to process credit application is as per agreed SLAs with CIB. In this regard, holds responsibility to coordinate and collaborate with Offshore team to prioritize work flow to ensure SLAs & TATs are met
- Oversee and ensure on a regular basis that the portfolio remains healthy and all the terms & conditions approved are being complied with.
- Proactively work on suitable mitigation strategies to resolve problem accounts, including emerging problem loans, as identified by the various reports generated including but not limited to ongoing portfolio management reports and Early Warning Indicators.
- Continual emphasis on process improvement to create ongoing efficiencies and use technology to the hilt.
- Lead, initiate, develop and own industry/sector risk appetite working closely with product partners, coverage units, Group Risk and other stakeholders. This includes an annual refresh or more frequent as required.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualification
- Must have Bachelor’s degree.
- Desirable: - Chartered Accountant/ Masters in Business Administration (MBA) or any other relevant finance degree or diploma.
Minimum Experience
- 10-15 years’ relevant experience in banking sector with at least 7 years in similar position with demonstrated career progression in credit related functions (FOR CREDIT MANAGER)
- 15 – 20 years’ relevant experience in the banking sector with at least 10 years in similar position with demonstrated career progression in credit related functions (FOR SCO)
Skills Required
- Well rounded proficiency & strong analytical skills focussed on credit assessment.
- High levels of integrity in credit analysis – fact based and backed with sound rationale to support or otherwise.
- Strong and sound knowledge of banking practices & products – these include as a minimum IFRS, BASEL, Risk appetite to name a few.
- Strong knowledge of regulatory framework, business environment & overall financial markets
- Demonstrated ability to make decisions and hold ground in the midst of pressure – need is to take a balanced view and adopt a holistic approach without compromise to core credit principles. This also includes a solution driven approach and manage conflict resolution on own.
- Well organized, able to multi task and balance competing demands.
- Strong communication skills – verbal and written. Demonstrated ability to hold dialogue, including at a strategic level and with senior management, with peers, clients and other internal teams.
