About the Company

HIFI is a financial infrastructure platform that provides the building blocks for cross-border payments and fiat-to-stablecoin products. We believe money should move at the speed of the internet through stablecoins and seamless bridges between fiat and digital assets. Our mission is to accelerate the world’s transition to modern, programmable money movement.

About the Role

We’re looking for a software engineer, for the infrastructure team, who can adapt quickly, collaborate effectively, and combine technical depth and creativity to solve hard problems. You’ll help build and operate the core infrastructure that underpins HIFI’s platform – spanning distributed systems, reliability engineering, observability, developer productivity, and cloud infrastructure.

At HIFI, engineers own their work end-to-end: from design discussions and product input to building, shipping, and scaling systems in production.

We value people who:

  • Find large challenges exciting and enjoy discovering and defining problems as much as solving them
  • Deliver — you may enjoy thoughtful conversations and perfecting designs, but in the end, you care about building reliable solutions that ship
  • Communicate clearly and comfortably across teams, asking questions, sharing ideas, and speaking up
  • Learn quickly, stay curious, and adapt to new challenges with a growth mindset
  • Move fast and stay effective in ambiguous, evolving environments, with a strong sense of urgency to get things done
  • Give and receive feedback openly, and collaborate across functions
  • Are passionate about something (anything!) and bring that drive into their work

How You’ll Contribute

  • Design, build, and maintain reliable and performant systems used across engineering.
  • Work with your team to define technical strategy, architecture, and long-term goals.
  • Collaborate with other engineers, product managers, and researchers to build infrastructure that meets evolving needs.
  • Improve internal tooling, automation, and developer experience.
  • Contribute to incident response, postmortems, and the development of best practices around system reliability and scalability.
  • Participate in roadmap planning and prioritization.

Responsibilities

  • Distributed Systems: Owning and building important, highly scalable, available, performant, and reliable distributed systems (and their building blocks) to power the entire stack at HIFI.
  • Systems Engineering: Work across layers of the stack–debugging system bottlenecks, evolving core infrastructure, and solving novel problems in performance and scalability.
  • Reliability Engineering: Build scalable, fault-tolerant systems and lead efforts around service health, incident response, and resilience.
  • Observability: Design and maintain observability tooling (metrics, logs, tracing) to give teams visibility into production systems at scale.
  • Developer Productivity: Create tools, environments, and workflows that help engineers ship high-quality software faster and more safely.
  • Cloud Infrastructure: Own the cloud-native infrastructure (compute, networking, storage) that underpins all services and research workloads.
  • Databases: Building high performance, distributed database systems that power all of HIFI's product stack.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Math, or related STEM field, or equivalent practical experience
  • 2+ years of professional software development experience
  • Experience with PostgreSQL or other relational databases
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Experience designing, operating, or scaling distributed systems or developer infrastructure.
  • Working knowledge of version control (Git), CI/CD pipelines, testing, and monitoring/observability tools
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with both technical and non-technical teams

Preferred Skills & Experience

Interested candidates who meet the basic qualifications should consider applying. The following preferred skills and experience are helpful for this role, but candidates with only some of them are able to be successful on our team. Learning on the job is critical success and part of the excitement of working at HIFI.

  • Experience designing and standing up infrastructure or platform systems from zero to one for products at scale
  • Knowledge of query optimization and database performance tuning
  • Familiarity with concurrency control, distributed systems, and database transactions
  • Experience scaling distributed systems for high availability, reliability, and performance
  • Familiarity with event-driven architectures and messaging patterns (e.g., pub/sub, queues, streaming)
  • Exposure to job queues, caching services, and data pipelines
  • Understanding of security best practices and a commitment to correctness in financial systems
  • Background or interest in financial systems, payments, or blockchain/crypto technologies is a plus

Additional Requirement

  • Must be within a commutable distance from our office and able to work in person most days of the week
