Data Science Internship - Only for NL residents - No Visa support

As a Data Science Intern at RespiQ you will be responsible for developing classification algorithms for the detection of volatile compounds in the measured spectrographic data. You will also be involved in the development of the portal for data collection and processing. You will benefit from the close collaboration with your peers, learn spectroscopic techniques and acquire knowledge from the data science lead. Your expertise and contributions will help advance the company's mission of revolutionizing respiratory healthcare.

Objective: A 6-12 months internship in partial or full compliance with a MSc. thesis.

Responsibilities:

Algorithm Development (Python):

  • Collaborate with our data science team to design, develop, and fine-tune classification algorithms for respiratory data analysis.
  • Implement machine learning models, data preprocessing, and feature engineering to enhance algorithm accuracy.
  • Perform rigorous testing and validation to ensure the algorithms meet performance and reliability criteria.

Data Portal Development (FastAPI/NextJS):

  • Work closely with the team to design and develop our data processing system.
  • Implement user-friendly features, interactivity, and data visualization tools to improve the user experience.

Data Integration:

  • Assist in data collection, cleaning, and integration from various sources into the data pool.
  • Collaborate with the backend development team to ensure seamless data flow and optimize data processing.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Create and maintain documentation for algorithms and front-end components.
  • Present findings, results, and progress reports to the team regularly.

Qualifications:

  • Student from a master’s programme in a related field (e.g., Computer Science, Physics, or Computational Physics)
  • Strong programming skills in languages such as Python, JavaScript, or similar.
  • Knowledge of machine learning and data analysis libraries (e.g., scikit-learn, TensorFlow, or PyTorch).
  • Understanding of data processing, data cleaning, and data visualization.
  • Some experience with front-end development (React) and databases (PostgreSQL) would be appreciated.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • A passion for healthcare technology and a desire to make a positive impact on patient care.

Location:

  • Hybrid: 20% on site, 80% remote.
  • Leiden, The Netherlands

Job Conditions:

  • A 6-month internship contract with the possibility of extension.
  • Flexible work environment, flexible hours and a hybrid setup.
  • Minimum salary
