Chief Technology Officer Shapemaker | Oslo, Norway | Full-time, on-site

We're hiring a CTO. You will start with a working platform, global customers, and a team of software and civil engineers who know this industry deeply.

You will build the product hands-on, lead the engineering team, set the technical direction for the company, and talk to customers and sales prospects. In the same week you can debug a calculation pipeline, scope a deal with a TowerCo, and improve how the team collaborates.

About Shapemaker

Shapemaker is reinventing how civil infrastructure gets engineered. We started with telecom towers: the structures the world's mobile networks run on. When an operator wants to add an antenna to a tower, someone has to prove the structure can carry it. Today that means scattered data and legacy software. With Shapemaker the tower is digital, the calculations are code-compliant and transparent, and operations that previously took weeks can be done in a day. Furthermore, our research on tower design optimization shows 30-40% less steel and concrete consumption.

Our customers include Telia Towers, Telenor Towers, ESB Telecoms, ICON Tower, Helios Towers, and Zillion Tower.

Our investors include Telenor, RunwayFBU (Aker), Firda, StartupLab, TRK Group, and Antler.

The problems

The industry is still figuring out how to best solve the following problems, and you will own how Shapemaker delivers on them:

Data. Data is scattered across PDFs, proprietary tools, asset management systems, and drone surveys, and data quality determines the efficiency of decisions. How do we help users digitize and make their data improve over time?

Engineering. Our calculations must comply with national design standards in every country TowerCos operate in, be transparent enough that engineers are willing to take liability on the results, and stay simple enough that non-engineers can model and analyze sites every day. How do we scale that trust across markets?

Operations. TowerCos run many systems and roles, and collaborate with mobile operators and consultancies. How do we slot into their operations, improve them, and open opportunities that weren't possible before?

How we build

We aspire to modern product development practices: an empowered team that works on problems rather than a feature list, and spends time in discovery with customers. We design together and deploy daily.

Our core tech stack is React + Typescript, Python, Go, and PostgreSQL. GCP with Terraform, Docker, and GitHub Actions.

What you will do

  • Own engineering strategy and architecture
  • Lead our badass engineering team, some of them working remotely
  • Work hands-on in the codebase: building product, solving bugs, helping users
  • Shape the engineering process: solve problems well, deliver ASAP, and keep the trust of our customers
  • Lead the engineering side of sales: technical scoping, integrations, and being in the room with customers

Who we are looking for

  • Excited by the mission: reinventing how civil infrastructure gets engineered, starting with the towers that keep the world's mobile networks running
  • Excited about the AEC world: BIM, structural or construction engineering, and where software can replace legacy tools in that industry
  • Has a point of view on how software and AI can change how infrastructure gets built and upgraded, and a product mindset to make it happen
  • Experience with API integrations and platform partnerships
  • Thrives working across countries and continents: our customers are spread across several
  • An entrepreneurial builder with a track record of solving hard problems from scratch, and ready to build a team culture around learning and feedback

What we offer

  • Competitive salary + equity. A meaningful stake in what we're building together
  • Real ownership and autonomy from day one. Your voice will shape the company's direction
  • An office centrally in Oslo
  • A chance to work on a clear sustainability and impact case and define once for all how infrastructure is built and managed.
