Role overview

We’re looking for a Compliance Manager who has worked at the intersection of fintech or law. Extra points if you know a thing or two about insurance underwriting! This role will work closely with our co-founders as well as our underwriting team, to build and oversee our compliance framework during a critical growth phase. This role will be instrumental in ensuring our innovative insurance products and technology solutions to support regulatory compliance at rapid scale.

The role will also involve

  • Design and implement a comprehensive compliance framework that balances regulatory requirements with startup agility
  • Provide strategic advice to product and technology teams on regulatory implications of new features and insurance products
  • Develop and maintain relationships with regulatory bodies, including ASIC and external stakeholders
  • Lead the development of compliance policies, procedures, and training programs
  • Conduct risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies for new product launches and technology deployments
  • Manage regulatory filings and maintain documentation for audit requirements
  • Work closely with legal counsel to ensure alignment between compliance frameworks and legal requirements
  • Build and mentor a future compliance team as the organization scales

Basic Requirements

  • Experience developing compliance frameworks from the ground up
  • Proven ability to translate complex regulatory requirements into practical business solutions
  • 5+ years of compliance experience in insurance or financial services, with demonstrated understanding of ASIC regulatory obligations

  • Legal background or qualification preferred.
  • Experience in insurance or other regulated categories (e.g. fintech) and/or strong working knowledge of the Australian insurance regulatory landscape and emerging insurtech compliance considerations and business insurance products, including general liability, property, cyber, and professional liability coverages

Salary Range

The pay range for this role is: $100K to $120K per year.

Our salary ranges are based on paying competitively for our size and industry and are part of our total compensation package, which also includes benefits and other perks. We also include stock options in all compensation packages and believe all upcover employees should have the opportunity to become owners in the company. Individual pay decisions are based on a number of factors, including qualifications for the role, experience level, skillset, location, and business need. The base pay range provided is subject to change and may be modified in the future
