About the opportunity
As a Geospatial Data Engineer at Mitigrate, you will play an essential role in processing, analyzing, and managing geospatial data, which is central to our climate risk prevention solutions.
Collaborating with cross-functional teams, including software engineers, you’ll use your expertise in Python libraries like Xarray and Geopandas, as well as cloud infrastructure tools such as AWS and Terraform, to develop robust, automated data pipelines. Your contributions will drive advancements in remote sensing, machine learning, and geospatial analysis to support our mission.
Responsibilities
Data pipeline development
- Design and implement efficient pipelines to process large-scale geospatial data.
- Debug and resolve technical issues related to geospatial data workflows.
Collaboration
- Work with cross-functional teams to gather and refine requirements for geospatial data projects.
Integration and automation
- Build and maintain APIs for seamless integration of geospatial data with front-end and third-party systems.
- Implement and manage cloud infrastructure using Terraform on AWS to support geospatial workflows.
Quality assurance and innovation
- Write high-quality, maintainable code with a focus on code reviews and testing.
- Stay informed about emerging technologies and best practices in geospatial data engineering, remote sensing, and related fields.
Requirements
Core qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Geoinformatics, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Experience: 1-2 years of experience in geospatial data engineering or a similar role.
- Technical expertise:
- Proficiency in Python and libraries like Xarray, rasterio, rioxarray, and Geopandas.
- Strong understanding of geospatial data formats, standards, and processing techniques.
- Experience managing cloud infrastructure, especially on AWS, using Terraform.
- Familiarity with RESTful API design and development.
Skills and attributes
- Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills.
- Strong communication and collaboration abilities.
Bonus qualifications
- Experience with AI-based software development.
- Background in developing enterprise software backends.
