About Mitigrate

Mitigrate is a VC-backed ClimateTech and InsurTech startup focused on providing fully automated analyses that lead to preventive measures aimed at reducing climate damage to real estate. By leveraging high-resolution satellite images, machine learning models, and geospatial analysis, we identify and implement over 40 climate-positive prevention strategies to reduce risk. Our clients include insurance companies, banks, and municipalities, helping them prioritize prevention across individual assets and large real estate portfolios. Position Overview

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will balance hands-on technical contributions with strategic leadership. You will lead a talented team of engineers, setting the vision for engineering excellence while mentoring team members and driving the adoption of best practices. You’ll play a key role in shaping our technical direction, scaling the Mitigrate loss prevention platform, and ensuring alignment with business goals.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Strategy

• Define and implement the engineering strategy in alignment with the company’s goals.
• Lead, inspire, and mentor a high-performing engineering team.
• Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
• Collaborate closely with product and leadership teams to prioritise and deliver features.
  

Technical Expertise

• Contribute hands-on to the development of critical systems when necessary.
• Drive architecture decisions and ensure the scalability and maintainability of the codebase.
• Stay updated on emerging technologies and recommend their adoption when relevant.
  

Team Development & Mentorship

• Build and retain a world-class engineering team.
• Mentor engineers to grow their technical skills and career paths.
• Establish engineering best practices, including code reviews, testing strategies, and CI/CD pipelines.
  

Execution

• Own and deliver on engineering roadmaps, ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical challenges.
• Ensure high system reliability and availability by adopting best DevOps practices.

Qualifications

Technical Expertise

• Proficiency in Python, Django, or similar backend frameworks.
• Deep experience with AWS infrastructure and IaC tools like Terraform.
• Familiarity with frontend frameworks like ReactJS (or similar).
• Familiarity with working with geospatial data (e.g. satellite data)
  

Leadership & Mentorship

• Proven experience managing and scaling engineering teams.
• Track record of mentoring engineers and fostering their professional growth.
  

Strategic Mindset

• Ability to balance hands-on development with high-level strategic planning.
• Experience aligning engineering initiatives with broader business goals.
  

Experience

• At least 3+ years in a leadership capacity.
• Strong knowledge of Agile/Scrum development processes.
