As a small team of full-stack engineers and generalists, we are constantly challenged and wear multiple hats. We believe in staying focused on real user impact and keeping complexity in check. With our search for a Senior Backend Engineer, we’re looking for someone experienced enough to own problems end-to-end and help steer both architecture and product direction — with plenty of room for growth and influence. We use TypeScript and strive to build scalable systems and services, a strong foundation that can support efficient product development and a quickly growing number of users and AI workflows.

What You’ll Do

• Build AI-powered analytics features: Develop intelligent workflows and assistive capabilities such as natural-language data exploration, smart suggestions, or automated insights. Design and implement the backend systems that make these experiences reliable and high-performing.
• Develop our core data platform: Contribute to Steep’s query engine and semantic layer, enabling fast and consistent metric calculations across many databases and SQL dialects.
• Architect robust APIs and integrations: Help design APIs and integrations that are clean, modular, and future-proof — enabling both human users and AI agents to interact with Steep effectively.
• Optimize performance and scalability: Help improve infrastructure and database performance, enhance observability, refine architecture, and ensure reliability as we scale.
• Focus on real user impact: Prioritize meaningful outcomes, ensuring the work you do directly improves the product experience without unnecessary complexity.
